A. There are a few possible explanations for black streaks on a roof. One is that the streaks are actually algae. Algae thrive in warm, moist environments, and they can cause staining and discoloration on a roof. Another possibility is that the streaks are simply dirt or soot that has built up over time. If the streaks are neither algae nor dirt, then they may be tar or asphalt that has come loose from the roof surface. The black streak on your roof can also be an infestation known as Gloeocapsa Magma. The organic eats away the limestone filler in your asphalt shingles, leaving behind a dark residue. Our Roof Soft Wash service will safely and effectively remove the black steaks eliminating the infestation at its roots.
